What are the benefits of Aloe Vera? What are the benefits of aloe vera?

Aloe vera is a popular medicinal plant that has been used by humans for thousands of years. Aloe vera or Aloe barbedensis is a thick, short-stemmed plant that stores water in its leaves. It is best known for treating skin injuries, but it has many other uses that may have potential health benefits.

This article lists eight potential health benefits of aloe vera. It also covers some of the risks associated with its use.

Antioxidant and antibacterial properties.

Antioxidants are important for health. Aloe vera gel is a trusted source of powerful antioxidants that belong to a large family of substances known as polyphenols.

These polyphenols, along with other compounds in aloe vera, inhibit the growth of certain bacteria that can cause infections in humans.

Lowers blood sugar levels.

People sometimes use aloe vera as a remedy for diabetes. Because it can increase insulin sensitivity and help improve blood sugar management.

For example, a review of eight studies from trusted sources found that aloe vera may be beneficial for people with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes because of its effects on glycemic control.

However, the quality of existing studies is not ideal, so scientists do not currently recommend using aloe vera for this purpose.

Reduces dental plaque.

Tooth decay and gum disease are very common health problems. One of the best ways to prevent these conditions is to reduce the build-up of plaque or bacterial biofilm on the teeth.

Researchers compared 100% pure aloe vera juice with the standard mouthwash ingredient chlorhexidine in a study of 300 healthy people using a trusted source of mouthwash.

After 4 days of use, aloe vera mouthwash appeared to be as effective as chlorhexidine in reducing plaque.

Reduces constipation.

Aloe vera can also help treat constipation while it’s the latex, not the gel, that does the trick. Latex is a sticky yellow residue under the skin of the leaves. The main compound responsible for this effect is called aloin or barbaloin, a well-established trusted source of laxative effects.

However, people have expressed safety concerns with frequent use. For this reason, aloe latex has not been available as an over-the-counter medicine in the United States since 2002.

Improve skin and prevent wrinkles.

There is some preliminary evidence that topical aloe vera gel can slow skin aging. A 2009 study of 30 women over the age of 45 found that taking Trusted Source, oral aloe vera gel over 90 days increased collagen production and increased skin elasticity.

Trusted Source reviews also suggest that aloe vera helps skin retain moisture and improve skin integrity, which may benefit dry skin conditions.

Accelerates wound healing.

People often use aloe as a topical medicine, rubbing it on the skin rather than eating it. It has a long history of use in the treatment of burns, including sores, especially sunburn.

Aloe vera can reduce burn healing time by about 9 days compared to conventional medications. It helps prevent redness, itching, and infection.

Healthy plant compounds.

Aloe vera is widely used in the cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and food industries, and the plant has an estimated annual market value of $13 billion worldwide. Aloe vera is known for its thick, delicate, and fleshy green leaves, which can be about 12-19 inches (30-50 cm) in length.

Each leaf has a thin tissue that stores water and this makes the leaves dense. This water-filled tissue is the “gel” that people associate with aloe vera products.

The gel contains most of the plant’s beneficial bioactive compounds, including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and antioxidants.

Summary.

Aloe vera has a variety of therapeutic properties, especially as an ointment for the skin and gums. People can use bottled aloe vera gel or take it directly from the leaves of the aloe plant. Aloe vera juice has different uses than aloe vera gel Oral alternatives should contain aloe vera whole leaf extract to reduce risk A person should always talk to a doctor before using aloe products to treat a condition.
