Winter Skin Care Tips for Healthy Skin-2022-2023

How to keep your skin looking young and beautiful during the cold months, Get ready for the holidays with these winter-2022 & 2023 skin care tips

Winter Skin Care Tips for Healthy Skin

The first change you start to notice when winter comes is your skin. Dry, rough, and itchy skin is accompanied by the arrival of special guests this season. Why wonder? Your skin stays hydrated by attracting moisture from the environment. When humidity levels drop, your skin becomes dehydrated and begins to feel dry.

Cold or cold weather can wreak havoc on your skin, thinking there’s no relief from it: the cold, blurry state of the outside leaves your skin red and raw, while the internal heat takes away moisture from the air and from your skin.

In winter, the air-like environment naturally has less moisture in the air. Internal factors, such as central heating, can also reduce humidity levels in the air,” explains Dendy Engelman, MD, a board-certified dermatologist in New York City. “This makes it more difficult for the skin to obtain natural protective oils, which play a special role as a barrier against environmental influences. As a result, moisture is pulled from the skin, causing it to become dry and cracked. ”

As the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) notes, even the things that make the winter wonder, such as sitting near a roaring fire, can dry out your skin, and although a hot shower can warm you up, according to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, hot water removes the skin’s natural oil.

Happily, there are many ways to fight the causes of dry skin and keep yourself moist and supple throughout the season, including some simple changes in your daily routine. While we prefer winter for the holiday season, comfortable sweaters, and hot chocolate, we don’t like how the temperature affects our skin. It seems that overnight our skin gets nourished and thick to dry and cracked.

There are some things to do to maintain hydrated and soft skin this winter. Here are 09 expert-backed skincare hacks that can spark your skin’s health.

  • Use of humidifier:

“Humidifiers help protect your skin when you’re indoors by replenishing the moisture in the air and keeping the humidity at an ideal level (about 40-60%),” says Dr. Engelman.  Releases hydrated air — not water vapor.

  • Avoid hot water:

“In winter, in particular, it’s tempting to raise the heat, but hot water flushes oil out of your skin and it can be more susceptible to drying out, cracking, and flaking,” says Dr. Engelman. After your overheated shower (or face wash), Dr. Engelman recommends applying oil or lotion to your body before your skin completely dries out. “It helps to lock in excess moisture,” she explains.

  • Healthy Eating

  1. banana
  2. papaya
  3. pineapple

  • Wear sunscreen, even on gray winter days or sunny winter days

On bright winter days, snow reflects the sun’s rays, which multiplies your UV exposure, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation. According to the American Cancer Society, ultraviolet rays have been linked to skin cancer, sunburn, and premature skin aging (such as wrinkles, skin, and liver scarring).

This means that whether you’re out on the slopes, playing in the snow, or walking through a parking lot at a workplace, applying sunscreen in harsh winter weather is just as important as in summer. Don’t be deceived even by the dark, terrible days of winter. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, up to 80 percent of the sun’s harmful UV rays can enter the cloud and still cause damage. Before going out, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with 30 or more SPFs with water-resistant and moisturizing ingredients, such as lanolin or glycerin, to all exposed areas of your body, says the Skin Cancer Foundation.

  • Moisturize Your Lips

“The lips can be extremely dry in winter because this skin is thin and constantly exposed to the ingredients,” says Dr. Engelman, adding that the skin of our lips has three to five cellular layers, whereas the rest of our skin has about 16, and unlike our skin, the lips They don’t have any oil glands to keep them hydrated. For this reason, it is very important to take care of them. Dr. Engelman recommends using the Lano Original 101 ointment because its formula retains moisture by 200% of its weight and heals dry, cracked skin quickly.

  • Drink plenty of water

While we all know how important it is to stay hydrated in our lives, Engelman points out that many people forget to drink water when it’s cold. “In winter, even the skin can’t retain moisture, and drinking water helps replenish some of that hydration,” she says.

  • Check the ingredients in your skincare.

If you probably have a favorite moisturizer you’re leaning toward, Dr. Engelman suggests looking at the ingredient list on the back of your product and making sure you’re using ultra-nutritious at this time of year. “Hyaluronic acid is a superstar ingredient for hydration because it can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water,” she says. “Ceramides and peptides strengthen and restore the skin barrier, helping the skin retain moisture. Squalene, shea, and lightweight hydrating oils — such as jojoba — are also great for helping the skin stay hydrated. ”

  • Take care of hand care

Since we all still constantly wash our hands, applying hand cream only in the morning so it is not enough to call it a day. Instead, place one on your desk, in your car, in the room, and in your purse so you don’t forget to reapply. For excess levels of moisture, use cuticle oil once a day to keep your nails in tip-top shape.

  • Wear comfortable clothes

Many cold-weather fabrics can aggravate dry winter skin. “Keep fur and rough clothing from touching your skin directly,” says Stein Gould. “It can cause major problems like irritation and itching on dry skin. ”

Instead, wear light layers made from soft, breathable materials (such as cotton or silk) against your skin. Next, pull on your heavy, warm sweaters, which the AAD recommends.

A deep sound of healthy and beautiful winter skin

If you still experience dryness, discomfort, and irritation after trying the above healthy skin tips, Stein Gold recommends using an over-the-counter 1 percent hydrocortisone cream. “If you don’t see improvement within a few days, talk to your doctor,” Says Stein Gould. You may need a prescription-strength moisturizer to overcome the effects of winter dryness on your skin, or your dry skin may be a sign of a skin condition that needs to be resolved according to the AAAD.
